Change starts with change
I have a little saying 'Change has to start with change'. It sounds obvious but I find so many organisations and leaders miss this point.
There is a lot of talk about the change that is wanted, but when it starts to kick in, people often feel extremely uncomfortable because - yep, you've guessed it - the change feels different.
To avoid messy change at work and being caught by surprise, here's some practical advice based on over two decades of experience in the field: it's my 3 C's for Successful Change at Work.
1) Get CLEAR on the change you want.
Write it down so it doesn't get lost in translation and be clear on who, what, why and how the change will be made.
2) Get CONFIDENT.
One thing is guaranteed when you make change: you evoke emotion. Yet, this mostly gets overlooked or actively swept under the carpet at work. We are human, we have emotion. Positive and destructive. It's time to start dealing with emotion brilliantly!
3) Get COMMITTED.
Intention is meaningless without action. My killer tool for checking in on commitment? Give it a mark out of 10 - simple! Anything less than 7.5 and Houston, you have a problem!
